If you don\u2019t drink enough water your body can\u2019t make enough blood.&nbsp;<\/span><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">Your organs need the oxygen, nutrients and water that blood carries to them.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If your blood level is too low they don\u2019t get enough blood and the lack of oxygen and nutrients can damage your organs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">Your blood plasma is 90% water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Body Loses 2 Quarts a Day<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Your body loses about 2 quarts of water a day which is 8 cups. You lose 5 cups of water to peeing and pooping, 2 cups to sweating and 1 cup to breathing.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Some people only drink 3 cups of water a day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If a body loses 8 cups of water and the person only drinks 3 cups they are 5 cups low for that day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If you are dehydrated day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year the low water and blood level can damage your heart and every organ in your body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Heart Pumps 2,000 Gallons a Day<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Your heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood a day while beating 100,000 times. That is forty 50 gallon barrels a day. Imagine using a hand pump to fill 40 fifty gallon barrels. That is the job that your heart does everyday.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Higher Blood Pressure<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Low blood level also needs more blood pressure to deliver blood to the farthest areas of your body.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; When your blood level is low because your water level is low and your body can\u2019t make enough blood, your brain tells your pituitary gland to create vasopressin to make your blood vessels smaller to increase pressure to send the blood further.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; It is like putting a nozzle over the end of a garden hose to make a smaller opening to increase the water pressure and squirt the water farther.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;Low blood level also makes your heart beat faster which makes it work harder and can wear your heart out over time.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Smaller Blood Vessels &amp; Thicker Blood<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; With smaller blood vessels it increases the chance of blood clots getting stuck in them because they\u2019re smaller which increases the chances of heart attacks and strokes due to blockages.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Low blood level also creates thicker blood which clots easier and can create larger blood clots which can get stuck easier as well. Having enough tear fluid is very important for this.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If you wear contact lenses and your eyes are dehydrated it makes contact lenses less comfortable to wear.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Dehydration can also cause eye strain as well as tired eyes and headaches.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Help Hearing &amp; Balance<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Drinking water to stay hydrated helps your hearing and balance as well. The easy way is 3 times a day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp;Drinking water in the morning, at noon and late afternoon or evening will help keep you hydrated throughout the day. You can also drink water mid morning and mid afternoon if you\u2019d like.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If you want more information on the different variables on how much water to drink, you can watch our New Strategy for Drinking Water video or read the blog post.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Drink Water Till It Feels Good<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; For myself I lift my water bottle to my lips and drink until it feels right.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp;When I started I tried to drink a certain amount of water each time and often found myself forcing the last amount of water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; Now I listen to my body and concentrate on scheduling water 3 times a day.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; If I am doing activities where I\u2019m sweating I may drink water before, during and afterwards to replace the water being lost to sweat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp; To make sure water is available to me I take a water bottle with me during those activities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\"><b>Too Much Water is Bad<\/b><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 21px;\">&nbsp;Dehydration is drinking too little water. Hyper hydration is drinking too much water.
