Help Your Body’s Built-in Air Filter Remove Virus Particles

NEW VIRUS PROTOCOL
Drink Water Before, During & After Social Activities

Would you like to help your body remove virus particles before they can infect you so your body has less virus to fight, less virus to spread and a less severe case?

When you breathe in virus particles they land on your nose, throat and lungs. Your body has a built in air filter to remove virus particles but it needs water to operate.

It needs water to float virus particles to the top of your throat where they are swallowed and then dissolved in your stomach acid.

Limited Window of Time

There is a limited window of time between when the virus lands and when it infects your cells.

You can remove the virus as virus particles during this window of time. Once the virus particles infects your cells and begin to multiply your body must destroy the infected cells inside you.

If your body is dehydrated it can slow down and even stop the removal of virus particles.

Drink Water Before, During & After Social Activities

Drinking water before, during and after social activities where you might breathe in virus particles helps your body have the water it needs to float and remove them.

Social activities where you might be exposed to the virus include going shopping, to church, a bar, concert, festival, family get together, going to the gym and other social events.

Your Body’s First & Second Line of Defense

Your body’s first line of defense against airborne virus particles is its built in air filter which removes as many virus particles as possible before they can infect you.

Your body’s second line of defense attacks the cells infected by the virus particles that weren’t removed by the first step to destroy the infected cells.

Your Body’s Two Immune Systems

Your body has two immune systems and a two step process to first remove and then destroy the virus.

Step one is the innate immune system which removes virus particles so your body has less to fight.

Step two is the adaptive immune system which attacks infected cells to destroy them.

Immediate vs. Delayed Immune Response

Removing virus particles is an immediate response.

Attacking infected cells can take the body 4 to 14 days of research first which is a delayed response during which time the virus is multiplying.

The longer it takes the more the infected cells multiply.

This is another reason why removing as many virus particles before they can infect cells to lower the initial virus dose is so important.

Your body’s air filter removal immune system is non-specific. This means it removes all types of virus particles including new variants of the virus.

Your body’s attack immune system response is specific. It needs to identify and respond to each new virus type or variation.

Drinking Water for Social Activities, Job & School

So if you want to help your body remove as many virus particles as it can during the window of time when it is still a virus particle you may want to consider drinking water before, during and after going to social events or activities where you might breathe in virus particles.

If you work at a job or go to school you might want to consider drinking water before, during and after as well.

Drinking water helps your body have the water it needs to float the virus particles to the top of your throat so you can swallow them and then dissolve them in your stomach acid.

Removing virus particles reduces the amount of virus your body has to fight to help you have a less severe case of the virus as well as less virus to spread.

Family Get Togethers

For family get togethers and the holidays you may want to consider getting hydrated a few days before the get together as well as during that day.

You may also want to make water is readily available during throughout the gathering.

How Your Body’s Mucociliary Escalator Works

For people who are curious about how their body’s amazing air filter works and why it needs water to operate we are including a bonus section here.

Your body’s air filter is called the Mucous and Cilia Clearance System also known as the Mucociliary Escalator. It is part of your body’s Innate immune system.

You breathe in 11,623 quarts of air every day and 100 bacteria particles every minute.

Two Mucous Layers: Sticky & Watery

Your nose throat and lungs are covered with a protective layer of mucous. This mucous has two layers.

The top layer of the mucous is sticky and traps dust, pollen, bacteria and virus particles.

The bottom layer of the mucous is watery so the top layer can float on it.

Cilia Move Mucous

There are also thousands of Cilia which are like tiny little hairs that line your nose, throat and lungs which move in the watery layer.

The cilia beat in one direction to move the top layer of mucous with the virus trapped in it up to the top of your throat where it is swallowed and then dissolved in your stomach acid.

Your body clears about a half a cup of mucous this way every day.

Thousands of cilia are constantly moving in the watery layer to move the top thick sticky layer of mucous with the virus trapped in it up to the top of your throat.

Dehydration Can Stop Virus Removal

If you are dehydrated the watery layer becomes lower and the top layer comes down on the cilia making them lay over so they can’t move.

This stops the Mucociliary Escalator from removing virus particles.

If the cilia can’t move it is kind of like a boat floating on the water but the oars aren’t moving. If the oars aren’t moving it isn’t going anywhere.

Drinking water helps your body keep a good level of water for the watery layer so the cilia can move to remove the virus particles from your body.

Share With Family & Friends

Drinking water also has wonderful health and beauty benefits.

To learn more check out our other videos on YouTube and Facebook as well as our podcasts and blog posts.

You can share what you learn with your family and friends to help them understand how drinking water can help heal problems caused by dehydration.

When sharing with other people please let them know that they don’t want to drink too little water or too much water which can cause health problems as well.

When seeing how much water they should drink they may want to talk with their doctor first especially if they have underlying health problems.

Drink Water Until It Feels Right

For myself I lift my water bottle to my lips and drink until it feels right.

When I started I tried to drink a certain amount of water each time and often found myself forcing the last amount of water. Now I listen to my body and concentrate on scheduling water 3 times a day.

If I am doing activities where I’m sweating I may drink water before, during and afterwards to replace the water being lost to sweat. To make sure water is available to me I take a water bottle with me during those activities.

The Bottom Line

The bottom line to all of this is to simply drink water before, during and after going to social activities or events where you might breathe in virus particles.

You want to drink water to help your body’s air filter remove as many virus particles as possible before they can infect you.

Removing more virus particles helps your body have less virus to fight, less virus to spread and a less severe case.

If you enjoyed this please share it with your family and friends and on social media.

Drinking Water Strategy for Health & Beauty Benefits

Low Water Level = Low Blood Level

Your body needs water to make blood. If you don’t drink enough water your body can’t make enough blood. Your organs need the oxygen, nutrients and water that blood carries to them.

If your blood level is too low they don’t get enough blood and the lack of oxygen and nutrients can damage your organs.

Your blood plasma is 90% water.

Body Loses 2 Quarts a Day

Your body loses about 2 quarts of water a day which is 8 cups. You lose 5 cups of water to peeing and pooping, 2 cups to sweating and 1 cup to breathing.

75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Some people only drink 3 cups of water a day.

If a body loses 8 cups of water and the person only drinks 3 cups they are 5 cups low for that day.

If you are dehydrated day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year the low water and blood level can damage your heart and every organ in your body.

Heart Pumps 2,000 Gallons a Day

Your heart pumps 2,000 gallons of blood a day while beating 100,000 times. That is forty 50 gallon barrels a day. Imagine using a hand pump to fill 40 fifty gallon barrels. That is the job that your heart does everyday.

Higher Blood Pressure

Low blood level also needs more blood pressure to deliver blood to the farthest areas of your body.

When your blood level is low because your water level is low and your body can’t make enough blood, your brain tells your pituitary gland to create vasopressin to make your blood vessels smaller to increase pressure to send the blood further.

It is like putting a nozzle over the end of a garden hose to make a smaller opening to increase the water pressure and squirt the water farther.

Low blood level also makes your heart beat faster which makes it work harder and can wear your heart out over time.

Smaller Blood Vessels & Thicker Blood

With smaller blood vessels it increases the chance of blood clots getting stuck in them because they’re smaller which increases the chances of heart attacks and strokes due to blockages.

Low blood level also creates thicker blood which clots easier and can create larger blood clots which can get stuck easier as well. Thicker blood is also harder for the heart to pump.

Heart Attacks & Strokes

Larger clots of blood with smaller blood vessels is a bad combination that can increase the chance of blood vessels being blocked and blood not being delivered to the heart and brain.

It can also increase the chance of blood clots blocking delivery of blood to other areas of the body.

Brain Rations Limited Blood Supply

When your blood supply is low because your body doesn’t have enough water to make enough blood there is not enough blood for all the organs and different parts of your body and your brain must ration this limited blood supply.

This means the organs in your body don’t get as much blood as they need because your body doesn’t have enough blood to give to them.

Blood delivers nutrition, oxygen and water to your body’s organs that they need.

Over time not getting enough blood damages all the organs in your body and can hurt your looks as well.

Survival Importance Ranking

When you’re dehydrated, your body doesn’t have enough water to make enough blood and goes into survival mode.

Your body prioritizes where to send its limited supply of blood carrying the oxygen, nutrients and water that the body needs for its survival.

Your body’s top priority is getting blood, oxygen and nutrients to your brain first, followed by your heart, kidneys, liver and other organs.

Let’s take a look at how low water level and low blood level affects the different areas of your body.

Hair Low on Survival Priority List

When you’re dehydrated, your hair is very low on your body’s survival priority list, so it gets very little of the blood, nutrients and water that your hair follicles need to build great hair.

Lack of water can also contribute to dry scalp which can increase dandruff.

Thin, Dry, Brittle Hair

With reduced blood supply your hair follicle doesn’t have the building materials that it needs and can only create a thin, dry, brittle strand of hair.

Thinning Hair

When you naturally shed hair and it falls out it is normally replaced with a new hair.

If you are really dehydrated, when a hair falls out it isn’t replaced because your hair follicle doesn’t have enough blood, oxygen and nutrients to create a new hair so that space is left empty.

So dehydration can cause both thin hair and thinning hair.

Strong Beautiful Hair

Drinking water to stay hydrated helps your body maintain a good blood level to deliver the blood your organs need and have enough left over to supply your hair follicles.

Drinking water is an easy way to help you grow thick, strong, beautiful hair.

Beautiful Skin Secret

Your skin is 64% water and your body’s largest organ. Drinking water can help you have better skin.

Dehydration can cause your skin to become dry and lose its elasticity. Drinking water helps fight aging and wrinkles.

  • Drinking water helps fight oily skin, acne, eczema and psoriasis.
  • Drinking water helps fight dark circles and sunken eyes.
  • Drinking water helps your skin heal and scar less
  • Drinking water helps hide cellulite.
  • Instead of dry skin, drinking water helps your skin have a healthy glow.

Drinking water helps your skin tone and complexion.

Saliva Fights Cavities & Bad Breath

Your body needs water to create saliva, which is 99% water.

Saliva is needed to help wash away food particles that get stuck in your teeth. Decaying food particles cause cavities, gum disease and bad breath.

Drinking water helps you have better breath for sweeter tasting kisses.

Saliva also helps keep your teeth whiter.

Your mouth also creates custom saliva for different types of foods to help you digest them.

Saliva also helps food slide down your throat better.

Your Organs are Water Balloons

A large percentage of your body’s organs are made up of water.

  • Your skin is 70% water.
  • Your Muscles are 75% water.
  • Your heart is 75% water.
  • Your liver is 75% water.
  • Your brain is 80% water.
  • Your lungs are 80% water.
  • Your kidneys are 80% water.
  • Your cartilage is 80% water.

So a large percentage of the organs in your body is water.

Let’s take a look at how drinking water to maintain good blood levels and other fluid levels helps the different organs and parts of your body.

Brain Processing Power & Mood

Your brain takes dehydration very seriously.

If your body is dehydrated your brain gets stressed knowing the damage dehydration is doing to your body. Even a mild amount of dehydration can affect your mood making you feel anxious, depressed and tired.

Drinking water helps you feel less stressed, happier and respond better.

When you are dehydrated your brains processing power is reduced.

  • If you are 1% dehydrated, you lose 5% of your brains processing power.
  • If you are 5% dehydrated, you lose 25% of your brain’s processing power, hurting your ability to think and make decisions.

Drinking water can help you be a better parent, student, athlete, worker and overall better, healthier human being.

Lungs Built-in Air Filter

Your lungs have a built in air filter that needs water to operate and removes dust, pollen, bacteria and virus particles but needs water to operate.

Drinking water helps your body’s built in air filter remove virus particles to help you have a less severe case of the cold or flu or any other virus because you have less virus to fight so you have a less severe case.

If your body is dehydrated it can slow down and even stop the removal of virus particles.

Drink Water Before, During & After Social Activities

Drinking water before, during and after social activities where you might breathe in virus particles helps remove virus particles before they can infect you.

Social activities where you might be exposed to the virus include going shopping, to church, a bar, a concert, festival, family get together, going to the gym and other social events.

In addition to helping your body’s air filter your lungs also need water to work their best and help you breathe.

We have a great video you can watch for more information about how water helps your body’s built in air filter remove virus particles so you have less to fight and a less severe case.

You can check it out on our website HydrationHealing.com You can find it by clicking on Webinar in our website menu.

Liver Factory & Control Center

Your liver is your body’s largest internal organ that does over 500 functions. It is a factory and control center for many of the functions in your body.

After food goes through your stomach and intestines it goes to your liver for processing. Your liver also creates custom fluids for your body. Water also helps prevent gall stones as well.

With all the important things your liver does it does need water to help it function and keep your body healthy.

Kidneys Remove Toxins & Waste

Your kidneys need water to help them process and get rid of the toxins and waste.

Each day your kidneys filter about 40 gallons of fluids in your body. Your kidneys get rid of about two quarts of waste and fluid they filter out each day when you pee.

Toxins and waste can get stuck in your body if your kidneys don’t have the water they need to remove them.

Lack of water can also contribute to kidney stones which are very painful.

Dehydration can be a factor in kidney disease and over time may cause permanent damage to your kidneys.

Digestive System Needs Water

Water is very important for a healthy digestive system. Your body needs water to create saliva and stomach acid to help you process food.

Some people think that acid reflux is cause by too much stomach acid. It actually can be caused by too little stomach acid.

If your stomach doesn’t have enough stomach acid to process food, it can send the food back up the throat causing acid reflux.

Drinking a glass of water before a meal can help you feel less hungry.

Water helps the mucosal lining and villi in your small intestine absorb nutrients.

Your intestines need water to help create a soft stool or turd that can easily poop out of your body.

Muscle Strength & Endurance

  Your muscles are 75% water.

Here you can see a video of a sponge expanding as we add water to it.

Drinking water helps your muscles be stronger, last longer, prevent injury and aid recovery.

Dehydration can cause muscle fatigue. When muscles are exhausted it is often because they are dehydrated.

  • 3% Dehydration = 10% Weaker Muscles
  • Your muscles are also more susceptible to injury when they are dehydrated.
  • Dry muscles tear easier.
  • Water also helps injured muscles recover.
  • Dehydration increases muscle pain.

Hydration increases muscle endurance and strength.

So drinking water to stay hydrated is a great way to make your muscles stronger and last longer.

Help Lubricate Joints & Prevent Joint Pain

Water is also needed for synovial fluid which helps lubricate and cushion your joints and cartilage.

Synovial fluid lubricates your joints to reduce the friction so they can slide easier for less wear.

  •   Drinking water also helps reduce joint pain.
  • The cartilage that helps cushion your joints is 80% water.
  • Dehydration causes your cartilage to dry out causing friction and pain as well as reducing your cartilages ability to cushion.
  • Dry cartilage also tears easier.
  • Drinking water helps prevent injury to your joints as well as helping them heal.

Dehydration can dry out the jelly like disks that cushion the bones in your neck and back. This can contribute to neck and back pain.

Help Prevent Dry Eye

Your eyes need water to create tear fluid to function properly.

Dry eye is where your tear ducts can’t produce enough tear fluid to hydrate and lubricate your eyes. Tear fluid helps prevent dry eye.

If you work in front of a computer for long periods of time looking at the computer monitor you blink less which can dry out your eyes as well.

Every time you blink it washes your eyes and helps hydrate them. Having enough tear fluid is very important for this.

If you wear contact lenses and your eyes are dehydrated it makes contact lenses less comfortable to wear.

Dehydration can also cause eye strain as well as tired eyes and headaches.

Help Hearing & Balance

Drinking water to stay hydrated helps your hearing and balance as well. Your inner ear is filled with fluid that helps maintain your body’s equilibrium and transmit sound.

  •   Conditions like vertigo, tinnitus, dizziness and even hearing loss can come from fluid imbalances in your inner ear.
  •   Fluid imbalances in the inner ear can affect peoples balance and increase their risk of falling.
  •   Drinking water also helps the mucous lining the Eustachian tube to help protect it from viral infections.

Drinking water to help maintain a healthy fluid level can help with hearing as well.

Drink Water 3 Times a Day

Hydration is replacing water as your body loses water during the day. The easy way is 3 times a day.

Drinking water in the morning, at noon and late afternoon or evening will help keep you hydrated throughout the day. You can also drink water mid morning and mid afternoon if you’d like.

If you want more information on the different variables on how much water to drink, you can watch our New Strategy for Drinking Water video or read the blog post.

Drink Water Till It Feels Good

For myself I lift my water bottle to my lips and drink until it feels right.

When I started I tried to drink a certain amount of water each time and often found myself forcing the last amount of water.

Now I listen to my body and concentrate on scheduling water 3 times a day.

If I am doing activities where I’m sweating I may drink water before, during and afterwards to replace the water being lost to sweat.

To make sure water is available to me I take a water bottle with me during those activities.

Too Much Water is Bad

Dehydration is drinking too little water. Hyper hydration is drinking too much water. You want balanced hydration replacing water as your body loses water throughout the day.

You want to be careful not to drink too much water which can wash out important electrolytes and cause health problems.

I’ve talked with a number of people that their doctor said you need to drink more water so they drank a lot more water and ended up back in the doctors’ office because they were drinking too much water.

Every body is different. You want to find the right amount of water for you and your body.

Talking with your doctor about how much water you should drink is a good idea especially if you have underlying health problems.

30 Day Hydration Challenge

They say it takes 30 days to create a new habit.

You can take our 30 Day Hydration Challenge to help you create a new healthy habit of drinking water 3 times a day.

You can also challenge your family and friends and check in with them to encourage each other.

To learn more check out our other videos on YouTube and Facebook as well as our podcasts and blog posts.

Removing Virus Particles

Help Your Body Remove Virus Particles
From Your Nose, Throat and Lungs

You can help your body remove virus particles from your nose throat and lungs before they can take root and multiply. This helps lower the dose of the virus inside you, helping you have a milder case and less virus to spread.

Simple Solutions are the Best
There is a story about a truck that got stuck under a bridge and a group of men trying to get it unstuck who were having no luck. A young boy suggested letting the air out of the tires to lower the truck. This simple solution solved the problem.
Sometimes we get so narrowly focused in one direction that we miss simple solutions that can be seen from a wider viewpoint. We can’t see the forest for the trees.

The Forgotten Immune System
Your body has two immune systems that work together in a two step process to first remove and then attack the virus. The immune system that attacks the virus gets all the attention. The immune system that removes the virus has been basically ignored.
It is very important that your immune system that removes the virus is turned on and removing virus particles as fast a possible to help lower your virus dose for a milder case with less virus to fight and less virus to spread.
While the Attack immune system needs billions of dollars, the Remove immune system just needs water to help it float the virus particles up and out of your body. Simple solutions are the best.

Remove & Attack Immune Systems
Your body has two immune systems that fight virus. Your body’s first line of defense against airborne virus particles is your Innate immune system which removes virus particles from your nose, throat and lungs before they can take root and multiply.
Your body’s second line of defense is your Adaptive (Acquired) immune system which attacks the cells inside your body that were infected by the virus particles that weren’t removed in time.
Your body needs both the first line of defense to remove virus particles and the second line of defense to attack the virus to help you survive.

Limited Window of Time
It is important to recognize that there is a window of time between when you breathe the virus particles into your body and when they begin to take root and multiply. Your body needs to be well hydrated so the Mucociliary Escalator can remove as many virus particles as possible.
Once the virus takes root infecting cells in your body it is too late to remove them and your body must fight them. The more you can remove the less your body has to fight.
You want to make sure your virus removal system is turned on and working full speed to remove as many virus particles as possible during this critical time.

Mucous & Cilia Clearance System
Your body’s built in air filter that removes virus particles is called the Mucous and Cilia Clearance System also known as the Mucociliary Escalator. (It is part of your Innate immune system.)

Your nose, throat and lungs are covered with a protective coating of mucous which has two layers. The top layer is sticky and traps airborne particles like virus that land on it. The bottom layer is watery and the top layer floats on it.
Your nose, throat and lungs are also covered with cilia which are tiny hair like structures that are constantly moving beating 16 times per second in the watery layer to push the top sticky layer of mucous up and out of your lungs to the top of your throat where it is swallowed and then dissolved by your stomach acid. Your body processes a half cup of mucous this way every day.

Dehydration Slows/Stops Virus Removal
The more dehydrated you are the denser and more gel like your watery mucous layer becomes making it harder for your Cilia to move. This causes your Mucociliary Clearance Mechanism to move slower removing less virus particles.
Dehydration can also lower the height of the bottom watery layer of mucous so the top layer presses down on the Cilia flattening them out so they can’t move. This stops your Mucociliary Clearance Mechanism from moving and stops its ability to remove Covid-19 particles.
Your body needs water to float the top layer of mucous with the virus trapped in it up and out of the body. You can’t float a boat on a dry river bed.

Specific vs. Non-Specific Immune Responses
Your attack virus immune system has a specific response which means it has to research and identify each new type of virus before attacking it.
Your remove virus immune system has a non-specific response that traps anything that falls on the sticky mucous including dust, pollen, bacteria and virus particles. It removes different types and variations of virus particles.
Viruses are constantly changing and mutating producing new variants. Flu viruses change and mutate every year as the virus adapts itself for survival. It can even change in the middle of a flu season so flu vaccines have to be changed each year. Flu vaccines are usually good for 6 months.
There is a new virus mutation that has a shorter incubation time period and a higher virus dose so which increases the need to remove as many virus particles as quickly as possible. The Mucociliary Escalator can clear the nasal cavity in about 12 minutes.

Non-Specific Means It Removes All Viruses
The Mucociliary Escalator which is non-specific traps virus particles and removes them no matter what strain or variation they are. The ability to remove a virus immediately without having to research and identify it first is an advantage over the specific immune response which can take 4 to 14 days during which time the virus in multiplying inside your body.
The longer it takes to identify the virus the more the virus multiples increasing your viral load and the amount of virus your body has to fight. Once your body has had a virus it remembers that virus and has a quicker response.
Your body’s first line of defense to remove as many virus particles as it can before they take root and begin to multiply is especially important with new virus that the body has not seen before that will take longer to identify.

VIRUS REMOVAL STRATEGY
Drink Water Before, During and After Events
Drinking water before, during and after going to an event or activity where you might breathe in virus particles will help keep your Mucociliary Escalator well hydrated to float the virus particles up and out of your body before they can take root and multiply.
This includes going to group gatherings like concerts, sporting events, churches, bars, restaurants, family gatherings, shopping or any activity where you might be exposed to and breathe in virus particles.
You may want to consider buying a water bottle to take with you or carry in your car to help you stay hydrated.

Provide Water, Signs and Announcements
If you are a restaurant, bar, church, gym, concert, sporting event making water available and encouraging hydration with signs and announcements will help keep your gathering from becoming a super spreader event.

Drinking Water 3 Times a Day for Jobs and School
If you work in a job where you may be exposed to virus particles in the air from other employees or customers you may want to consider drinking water throughout the day.
The easy way is 3 times a day, morning, noon and later afternoon or evening. You may want to consider this if you are a school teacher or student as well.
Working construction in the heat of summer you will probably sweat more than someone working in an office. Adjust your water for your situation and how much water you lose during the day.

DRINK WATER BEFORE, DURING & AFTER
When going to a public gathering drink water before, during and after to stay hydrated.

Your Mucociliary Escalator needs water to float the virus up and out of your lungs to remove it before it can take root and multiply.

Alcohol, Smoking, Airplanes and Sweat Water Loss
Drinking alcohol quickly dehydrates you. If you drink 2 cups of wine your body needs 3 cups of water to process it so your body loses 1 cup of water. This means you need to drink a cup of water for every two cups of wine to balance your hydration.
Beer goes quickly through the body causing water loss as well as other alcohol. You may want to drink a beer bottles worth of water for every two bottles of beer your drink as well to help keep you hydrated.
Smoking and vaping can paralyze your Cilia slowing down or stopping the removal of virus particles. You might want to consider stopping smoking or vaping to help your body’s ability to remove virus particles.
Activity like dancing or working out can cause you to sweat increasing water loss as well.   You want to drink water to replace the water you lose from sweating activities.
Air conditioning can dry out the air and increase dehydration in offices as well as airplanes. Drinking water during a flight can help fight jet lag as well.

How Heat and Cold Affect Virus Removal
Hot weather creates more water loss from sweat which can cause people to be dehydrated if they don’t replace the water lost from sweating.
Cold weather can cause a different problem as breathing in cold, dry winter air can dry out the mucous and slow down the Cilia movement. Breathing through your nose helps humidify and warm cold winter air in your nasal cavity before it goes into your lungs.
The nasal cavity also produces Nitric Oxide which is anti-viral that you won’t get with mouth breathing. Nose breathing also helps filter virus particles. If you are in a group with other people speaking nose breathing lets you close your mouth to reduce direct spray from people speaking.

Drink Water for Fever, Vomiting, Diarrhea
Drinking water to replace water lost to fever, vomiting or diarrhea that can happen if you get sick from a virus is a good idea. Having a water bottle by your bedside can be a good idea.

No Magic Bullet - Living with Covid-19
There is no magic bullet but there are things you can do to help fight a virus. It is the combination of prevention that helps mitigate it. For one of the newest virus the current goal is to prevent severe disease and death. It looks like this virus will be around going forward so learning how to live with it and all the things we can do to make it less severe are needed.
Wearing a mask, social distancing and washing hands are three things that have been suggested. In addition to these you may want to consider drinking water before, during and after attending activities where you might breathe in the virus, to help your Mucociliary Escalator “Wash” the virus from your nose throat and lungs.

Virus Particles Breathed In – Virus Particles Removed = Initial Virus Dose
Lowering the initial virus dose helps lower your viral load to help you
have a milder case of the virus and less virus to spread.
A mask helps filter the air you breathe in so turning on your body’s built in air filter makes sense as well.

Don’t Drink Too Much Water
Both dehydration, not drinking enough water and hyper-hydration, drinking too much water are bad for you. You want to drink a balanced amount of water, replacing water as your body loses water during the day.
I have talked with people who have told me they were told to drink water and drank too much and ended up at the doctors office. Every body is different and talking with your doctor about how much water is right for you and your body is a good idea.

Drinking Water Health & Beauty Benefits
There are amazing health and beauty benefits to drinking water. Hydration helps your lungs, heart, brain, digestive system, liver and kidneys, muscles, joints, eyes and ears.
Drinking water also helps you have thick beautiful hair, fights aging and wrinkles as well as fighting cavities and helping you have fresher breath.
Drinking water helps both your Innate and Adaptive immune systems fight the virus. Being hydrated also helps make your body stronger to fight the virus.

Drinking Water and Happiness
Dehydration can affect your mental health as well. Even a little dehydration can make your brain feel depressed and anxious as well as making you feel tired.
Drinking water is an easy way to help improve your health, beauty and your life.

2 Quarts of Water a Day
The average body loses about 2 quarts of water a day. That is 8 cups of water and there are people who only drink 3 cups of water a day. A study showed that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. Not replacing the water your body loses during the day can cause health problems.

Low Water Level Creates Low Blood Level
Your body needs water to make blood so when you are low on water your body can’t make enough blood which lowers your blood level. Low blood level makes your heart work harder and means your organs are not getting as much blood with the oxygen and nutrients that they need. Lack of blood can damage your organs and cause disease over time.

NEW STRATEGY FOR DRINKING WATER

3 Times a Day is the Easy Way

Dehydration is when your body loses more water than it takes in

  • Your body is constantly losing water during the day. You lose 2 quarts of water a day which is 8 cups. You lose 1 cup breathing, 2 cups sweating, and 5 cups peeing and pooping.
  • So your body continually needs water to replace the water lost through out the day
  • The easiest way to do this is to drink water 3 times a day
  • You can think of it as a prescription for water that needs to be taken 3 times a day

WHEN TO DRINK WATER
You may want to do Morning, Noon and Night

Drinking a glass of water as the first thing you do when you get up gives your body what it needs to start the day and gets that first glass out of the way.

  • Drink your second glass of water around noon and third glass of water in the late afternoon or evening.
  • When you drink a glass of water in the morning you may feel a strong urge for a bowel movement (the need to take a crap) about 10 minutes after.
  • Don’t drink your water right before going out the door or you may be in your car needing the bathroom urgently.

You may want to do Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner

It is easy to get busy and forget to drink water. An easy way to remember is to drink a glass of water with each meal.

Natural Appetite Suppressant

Water is a natural appetite suppressant which will help you eat less and drinking a glass of water before a meal can help you feel fuller as well.

  • You may want to drink a glass of water before a meal or a cup before your meal and a cup during the meal.

Hunger or Thirst?

Your body can’t tell the difference between hunger and thirst.

  • Sometimes when you feel hungry you are actually thirsty and dehydration can make your crave sugar.
  • Try drinking water as a snack to see if it curbs your hunger.
  • You can set a timer, your cell phone or computer to alert you to drink water for the 3 times a day that work for you
  • You can also drink a cup of water mid morning and mid afternoon or sip water during the day.

HOW MUCH WATER TO DRINK

So how much water should you drink a day?

  • I was talking with a woman who told me her uncle had died a few months ago and I told her I was sorry.
  • She said that two years ago he was told if he drank water he would survive but he refused.
  • I can kind of understand that. The idea of drinking a glass of water every hour for 8 hours every day can seem like too much.
  • I have talked with people who say you must drink this much to drink the perfect amount.
  • For me one of the most important things is for people to realize the wonderful benefits of drinking water and to get started drinking water 3 times a day.
  • I know there have been times in my past where I probably didn’t drink even a cup of water in a day.
  • A study revealed that 75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated.
  • Getting in the habit of drinking water three times a day and paying attention to your water intake will help you live a healthier, happier life.

Lower Causes More Damage

If a cars engine needs 5 quarts of oil running it with 4 quart of oil low isn’t the best but won’t do too much damage.

  • Running your engine on 1 quart of oil will damage it and it may seize up and stop working.
  • If you are a little dehydrated it isn’t the best but isn’t doing too much damage.
  • If you are very dehydrated it can damage your organs and over time can lead to disease.

Longer Causes More Damage

The longer you run your cars engine low on oil the more damage it does. The longer you run your body low on water the more damage it does.

Basic Recommendation

So what is a basic recommendation for how much water should you drink a day?

  • I am going to suggest drinking a 16 ounce glass of water three times a day as a basic recommendation that you can adjust for your body’s needs.
  • Every body is different, some people may need more water and some may need less.
  • Talking to your doctor before starting a hydration program is a good idea especially if you have underlying health conditions.

8 Cups or 4 Glasses

Many people have heard of the eight 8 ounce glasses of water rule which was actually 8 cups of water.

  • 8 ounces of water = 1 cup which is about half the size of an average glass.
  • So eight 8 ounce cups of water = four 16 ounce glasses of water which seems a lot easier to do.
  • We recommend three 16 ounce glasses of water a day with the 4th glass coming from the food you eat or liquids you drink.
  • Here you can see four 16 ounce glasses and eight 8 ounce Styrofoam cups. A 16 ounce glass = 2 cups.

So you can drink eight 8 ounce cups of water or four 16 ounce glasses of water to get the same amount of water. You can also do a mixture of cups and glasses.

Adding One More Glass or 2 More Cups

4 glasses of water a day is recommended so if you can add 1 more glass of water a day either sipping on it during the day or in the evening before you go to bed it is even better.

  • You may want to add a cup of water as a snack mid morning and mid afternoon.
  • This will add up to a glass of water.
  • If you are drinking a glass of water in the morning, at noon and in the late afternoon adding 2 more cups will give you 4 glasses for the day.

You can also get your 4th glass of water from the fluids in the foods you eat or other beverages that you drink like coffee, tea, juice and milk.

Measuring Your Cups and Glasses

One cup = 8 ounces is a measurement. Cups that you drink from come in different sizes. Some cups hold 8 ounces, some cups hold 16 ounces. There are different size glasses as well.

  • You can use a measuring cup to measure out 1 cup of water which is 8 ounces or 2 cups which is 16 ounces and pour it into the cup or glass you will be drinking from to see how full it gets with that amount of water.

Bottled Water and Water Bottle

If you drink bottled water an average bottle of water is 16.9 ounces so 3 of those a day and one at night will give you your 4 glasses of water a day.

  • Bottled water is in one time use bottles and are not made for reuse.
  • You may want to use a reusable water bottle or glass with a straw.

Sipping Soda Dangers

Avoid sipping soda, sugary drinks or juice. A friend of mine would sip on a soft drink during the day which kept his mouth in a sugar state and ended up needing over $10,000. of dental work. It is better to sip on water.

Flavor Water and Electrolytes

Some people like to flavor their water. You can lose electrolytes drinking too much water. You may also want to add electrolytes if you feel you are getting low on them.

  • Generally it is recommended to not drink over a glass and a half an hour.
  • If you ever become extremely dehydrated you want to re-hydrate slowly.

Hydration Variables

You want to find the hydration level that is right for your body and lifestyle. Talk to your doctor and listen to your body.

  • EXERCISE: Exercising you may need more water. Generally a cup of water before working out, a cup of water every 15 to 20 minutes and a cup of water after your workout is suggested.
  • AGE: Younger children may need less water depending on their age.
  • HEALTH CONDITIONS: If you have underlying health conditions, are older, or on medications it can change how much water you need.
  • HEAT: In hot weather you may need to drink more water to replace water lost from sweating.
  • WEIGHT: There are charts that recommend that increased body weight increases the need for water.
  • MAN OR WOMAN: Some studies show that men may need more water than women.

Basic Hydration Test
The most basic hydration test is the color of your pee.

  • If it is clear or light yellow you are probably good.
  • If it is deep yellow or darker or smells you probably need to be drinking more water.
  • You also should be peeing 5 to 8 times a day which flushes out toxins from the body and helps keep the kidneys healthy.
  • Sitting all day is not good for you so getting up to pee gives you a break from sitting.

HEALTHY TEETH

Help Prevent Cavities, Gum Disease and Get Better Breath

How drinking water helps your teeth and helps fight COVID-19. Saliva helps prevent cavities. Saliva helps wash away food particles that get stuck in your teeth. Bacteria feed on the food particles that get stuck in your teeth and produce an acid that creates cavities.

More food particles give the bacteria more to feed on increasing the problem, so having enough saliva to wash away food particles is very important for your teeth. Saliva is 98% water, so drinking water is important to help your body produce enough saliva.

Drinking water helps healthy gums. The acid that the bacteria create that hurts your teeth can also hurt your gums. Over time they can cause gum disease, which can contribute to tooth loss. Drinking water helps teeth enamel. Saliva has calcium and other minerals in it that can help strengthen the enamel in your teeth.

Saliva can also help keep your teeth white by washing away food and drink before it can stain your teeth. Saliva helps prevent bad breath. Saliva is needed to wash away the bacteria and food particles which cause bad breath as they decompose in your mouth.

Drinking water can also help your kisses taste sweeter. Saliva helps your teeth. Your teeth are important in the digestion process as they break down the food you eat before you swallow it. The stomach can't break down large chunks of unchewed food and they can rot in the stomach causing stomach problems. Swallowing large pieces of unchewed food can also cause choking.

In addition to drinking water to help your teeth we do recommend brushing your teeth, flossing them and rinsing after your brush as well. So for the health of your teeth, your gums, your digestive system and your breath drinking water is an easy solution.
